What is Exposure and Response Prevention?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) treatment is an evidence-based intervention used to help individuals struggling with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
This therapeutic approach focuses on gradually exposing clients to their specific obsessive thoughts or situations that trigger anxiety and distress. By facing these fears in a controlled setting without engaging in compulsive behaviors, individuals can learn to tolerate the anxiety and prevent the compulsions that typically follow. Through this process, clients can reduce the frequency and intensity of their obsessions and compulsions, ultimately gaining more control over their symptoms and reclaiming their lives from OCD. ERP Treatment is highly effective and research shows promising outcomes with an average symptom reduction of 80%, yet treatment success can depend on various factors unique to each client. I have seen firsthand the positive changes ERP can bring to individuals struggling with OCD. The tailored approach of ERP can be instrumental in helping clients overcome the challenges of OCD and improve quality of life.
I specialize in providing ERP treatment for adults and adolescents (12+). I received my training from the International OCD Foundation. Please contact me if you or a loved one would benefit from ERP treatment.
